JAMES K. NEEDHAM

Grave marker for James K. Needham in Bruce Newton Plot, Lot 178, Space B3, Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Wichita (Sedgwick county). Kansas.

 

James registered for the draft in Girard, KS on 18 October 1940 while still a student at Kansas State Teachers College.

Following gradation he entered service on 2 September 1942 as a 2nd Lt.

1st Lt Needham was transferred from 82nd Airborne Division HQ to Hq 1st, 508th PIR on 27 February 1945 and was assigned the principal duty of 1st Battalion Supply Officer.

He was discharged on 6 March 1946.

His military decorations include the Purple Heart for a wound sustained in Holland on 5 October 1944 and the Bronze Service Arrowhead device awarded for the Southern France Campaign and Airborne Operations.
