Grave marker for Troy C. Newman in Zoar Community
Cemetery (Sumter county), South Carolina.
Troy enlisted at Ft Jackson, Columbia, SC on 4
December 1942 and was assigned to Company "I", 508th PIR.
It is ironic that his death fell on June 6th, 46
years after the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Pvt Newman was
wounded in action there on 3 July 1944 and was awarded the Purple
Heart as well as the Bronze Service Arrowhead device for his
participation in the Normandy assault.
