TROY C. NEWMAN

(courtesy of Stephen C. Petit, Sr)

Grave marker for Troy C. Newman in Zoar Community Cemetery (Sumter county), South Carolina.

Troy enlisted at Ft Jackson, Columbia, SC on 4 December 1942 and was assigned to Company "I", 508th PIR.

It is ironic that his death fell on June 6th, 46 years after the D-Day invasion of Normandy.  Pvt Newman was wounded in action there on 3 July 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart as well as the Bronze Service Arrowhead device for his participation in the Normandy assault.
