JULIUS E. NIELSEN

Julius E. Nielsen September 25, 1923 - May 7, 2010

Julius Earl Nielsen was born to Hans Peter Nielsen and Juliana Graciella Mollerup Nielsen in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He grew up in Huntington, Utah and Springdale, Idaho. He attended and graduated from Cassia County Schools. His family consisted of his parents and three brothers: Soren (Marjorie), Gordon (Gae) and Milton (Dora and Vilate) and one sister, Elvira (lrvin Meline) all of whom preceded him in death. He married Carmelita Price of Heyburn, Idaho on July 11, 1942.
   He and Carma had three children: Judith Nielsen, JoAnn Nielsen Jensen (Frank) and Kelly Earl. Kelly preceded him in death in 1964.They lived in Burley, Idaho and Rupert Idaho until 1975 when Earl and Carma moved to Parma, Idaho where they were both employed at Amalgamated Sugar Co. He retired from the Sugar Company in 1988.
   He was a member of the LDS Church and served in many capacities over his lifetime, some of them being Scout Master, Elder's Quorum Pres., High Priest Group Leader, and Home Teacher. He loved serving his fellow members.
   He and Carma served an LDS Mission in England from August 1991, to February 1993. Earl served many people in the Parma area for 30 years providing firewood, and assistance to friends and neighbors on a variety of projects. He built trailers, welding tables, welders carts, reindeer (before they were even available commercially, steel post drivers, gates, etc. Making useful items was his hobby. He was available to help anyone from Parma to Rupert at any time.
   Earl was an avid horseman. He served in the Cassia County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse for many years before he moved to the Parma area. He loved to go with his friends and family trail riding whenever possible.
   Earl and Carma have 4 grandsons: Scott Alan Jensen (Melanie), Clinton Earl Jensen (Katie Jo), Brett Richard Jensen (Lindsay) and Jeremy Ryan Jensen (Shawna). They have 12 great-grandchildren.
   Earl entered the Presbyterian Community Care Center on April 10, 2010 and received the best of care until his death on May 7, 2010. The family wishes to thank the PCCC for the excellent care and love of their husband and father. Earl was very grateful for those men and women who cared for him.
   Services will be Friday, May 14, 2010 at the Parma LDS Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. under the direction of Lienkaemper Chapel, Ontario. A second service will be in Rupert Idaho at the Rupert 3rd Ward Chapel on Saturday May 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. viewing from 9-10 a.m. at the Church on F Street in Rupert.
   Friends who wish may contribute in his memory to a charity of choice.

Julius married Carmelita Price in Cassia, Idaho on 11 July 1942

 

He registered for the draft in Burley, Idaho on 29 June 1942 and was inducted into the Army at Pocatello, ID on 16 February 1943 and was yjrm assigned to Company B, 508th PIR.

He was promoted to Cpl on 24 October 1944.  Cpl Nielsen was take prisoner on Christmas Eve, 1944.

Following his release from captivity, he was discharged on 20 December 1945.

   SPRINGDALE, May 14 Cpl. Julius Nielsen, who was reported as missing in action in Belgium following a German break-through in December, recently wrote his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Nielsen, that he has been liberated. News dispatches indicate that his company was released about 10 days or more ago.

Cpl. Julius E. Nielsen, Spring-dale, who was reported as missing in action in Belgium following a German break-through in December, recently wrote his parents that he has been liberated from a German prison camp.
