Grave marker for Russell E. Null in Division R,
Section 2, Block 45, Space 16 of the Memorial Park Cemetery, Saint
Petersburg (Pinellas), Florida.
Russell enlisted in the Army at Huntington, West
Virginia on 9 October 1942.
Initially assigned to Service Company, 508th, he
was transferred to Hq 3rd in November 1943.
In
May 1944 Pvt Null was hospitalized and on 19 July 1944 was flown
from Prestwick, Scotland to La Guardia Field, NY aboard an Air
Transport Command aircraft. The tail number shows that it was
a four-engine C-54. The flight, which stopped in Stephenville,
Newfoundland for fuel and two additional passengers, made the
transit in a single day.
Pvt Null was transferred to the Parachute
Replacement School, Fort Benning, GA, presumably for additional
medial treatment. He was discharged on 21 August 1944. |
