VIRGIL C. OHLRICH

Grave marker for Virgil C. Ohlrich and spouse in Section CA-14, Site G-21, Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno (San Mateo county), California. 
   This grave site is located near the flagpole, see enlarged inset at upper right.

Virgil enlisted in the Army at Cleveland, OH on 6 January 1943. He had already completed his college degree and was commissioned shortly thereafter.

On 15 October 1945, 1st Lt. Ohlrich was transferred from Hq 82nd Airborne Division to Company I, 508th PIR.

Virgil married Mary Madeline Bennett on 25 October 1947 in Dedham, Massachusetts.  A native of Nova Scotia, Canada, she immigrated as an infant.  She was granted  U.S. Citizenship in 1956.  The couple had, at that time, one daughter, Janet, born at Fort Bragg. NC.

Virgil remained in the Army Reserve following the war and retired as a Major on 3 January 1965
