ERNEST T. OLSEN

[courtesy of "Veteran Guy"]

Grave maker for Ernest T. Olsen in Silver Lake Cemetery, Bucksport (Hancock county), Maine.

Ernest enlisted in the Army at Bangor, ME on 1 October 1942.

Pvt Olsen's arrival in the 508th does not appear in available records.  However, on 4 October 1944, he was listed in the Hq 3rd Morning Report when he was wounded in action in Holland.

He returned to the company on 25 October but was transferred to Service Company for light duty.  It was not until 22 November 1944 that he was transferred back from service Company.  It is unclear whether he saw action in Belgium.

His military decorations include the Purple Heart and the Bronze Service Arrowhead device awarded for the Holland campaign and Airborne operations.
