Harold enlisted in the Army at Toledo, OH on 25 October 1943.

Pvt Packer was transferred from the 11th Replacement Depot to Hq 3rd, 508th PIR on 10 August 1944. 

His military awards include the Bronze Service Arrowhead device for Holland campaign and Airborne operations.

Harold was discharged on 26 July 1945.
