Billie Joe enlisted in the Army at the Presidio of Monterey, CA. He was residing in Alameda at the time employed as a welder, perhaps at the naval ship yard there.

On 28 December 1947 Pfc Parris arrived at New York, NY aboard the USAT General R. E. Callan from Bremerhaven, Germany.
