JAMES P. PENNYPACKER

Grave marker for James P. Pennypacker in the Citizens Cemetery, Lavelle (Schuylkill county), Pennsylvania.

James enlisted in the Army at Allentown, PA on 27 February 1943.

On 3 October 1944, Sgt Pennypacker was transferred from the 82nd Airborne Headquarters to Service Company, 508th PIR.  On 8 December 1944 he was transferred to G Company and remained in that unit.

Sgt Pennypacker was wounded in action on 7 January 1945.  After recuperation he rejoined the company on 25 February 1945.

Sgt Pennypacker's military decorations include the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman badge which was awarded "for action during campaign, 18 Dec 1944 to 20 Feb 1945".
