Grave marker for Robert
G. Persyn in Angelus Memorial Park, Anchorage (Anchorage Borough),
Alaska.
Born in Missouri in
1924, Persyn probably first enlisted in November of 1942 and
volunteered for parachutist duty. He was assigned to Company
B. Then a Pvt, he was seriously wounded in Holland on
September 18, 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart. After
being transferred to an unknown hospital, his name is no longer seen
on 508th records.
According to the
inscription seen here, he also received the Bronze Star Medal. .
Robert re-enlisted as
a Staff Sergeant in Attica, Indiana on November 10. 1945 and listed
his state of residence as Alaska. He was assigned to the 593rd
signal Operations Company. Whether he remained in the Army and
perhaps saw action in Korea is not known but may account for the
Bronze Star Medal award.. |
