Melvin registered for the draft in Austin, NV on 16
October 1940. He was inducted into the Army at Boise, ID;12 Mau 1942,
The major change of locale was probably due to his stated employer,
the Governor Mercury Mine shut down in 1941. Boise had numerous
operating mines at that time.
Pvt Pilant was wounded in action in July, 1944 when he
was hit by artillery shell fragments. He recovered quickly and was
released to duty that same month. |
