PAUL O. PRIWER


Paul Otto PRIWER, 69, of Springfield, died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 21, 1988, in Community Hospital. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, December 30, 1918, son of Fred and Marie (DISTLEHORST) PRIWER.

He served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army during World War II. He retired in 1968 from the International Harvester Company and was an avid walker and bicyclist in the Clark County area.

Survived by his wife, Thelma (RIX) PRIWER; one daughter, Judie MARTIN of Beavercreek; one sister, Juanita SHARP of Springfield; three grandchildren; four great grand-children; three nieces; one nephew; two great nephews; two great nieces. Preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Phyllis PRIWER; a brother, Lieutenant Wayne F. PRIWER.

Friends may call in the Austin Richards and Raff Memorial Home on Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Memorial Home at 10 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Larry A. DONNER officiating. Burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

   Paul enlisted in the cavalry in November 1937, and received his basic training at Ft Meade [MD]. He was sent to the Philippine Islands in 1938 and served there two and one-half years.
   Following his return from the islands he was sent to Camp Davis, N.C., where he spent two years as an instructor prior to transferring to the paratroopers.
   He received his paratrooper training at Ft. Benning, Ga, and was sent overseas in February, 1945, seeing service in France as well as Germany.
   Pvt Priwer transferred from the  51st Reinforcement Battalion to Company B, 508th Prcht Inf on 24 April 1945.
