James enlisted in the Army at Philadelphia, PA on 10/12/1942 and was assigned to Company A.
   Pfc Putt was seriously injured in action o 8 June 1944 and evacuated to the 90th General Hospital. 
   On 27 September 1944 he was transferred to the Detachment of patients at an unknown hospital and did not return to the regiment.

   He was discharged from the Army at the Tilton General Hospital, Fort Dix, NJ on 3 December 1946.
