HAROLD J. QUERBACH

(courtesy of " Sharon W")

Grave marker for Harold J. Querbach at Section FF Site 338 of the Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta (Kalamazoo), Michigan.

Hugh enlisted in the Army on 29 June 1943 and volunteered for parachutist duty.  After completion of jump school he was assigned to Company E, 508th, perhaps as one of the many replacements required after the Normandy campaign..

Pvt Querbach participated in the jump into Holland on 17 September 1944 and was twice wounded.  Following recovery in a general hospital, he returned to the 508th on 20 November 1944 and was transferred to Service Company as he was not yet deemed combat ready.

Pfc Querbach was awarded the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Service Arrowhead for his participation in the Holland campaign and Airborne operations.

NOTE:  His brother Albert also served in the 508th during WWII.
