Born in Stettler (Alberta), Canada IN 1922, Jack entered
the U.S. IN 1924 with his parents.
On
6 December 1941 he re-entered the county at Blaine, WA with Canadian
Passport #154271 issued in Vancouver, BC on 27 November 1941. The
trip may have been solely to get a passport renewal.
Curiously, the 1940 Federal Census listed him as being
an "American
Citizen Born Abroad". However, Jack became a naturalized citizen
in Augusta, GA in Petition No. 676, under name of Jack Myers Quist while
stationed with the 1261st Engineering Combat Battalion at Camp Gordon,
GA.
Based on his naturalization document, Jack first
enlisted in the Army on 13 January 1943.
Although there is no record of his arrival, the
Morning Report for the 508th Band on 6 September 1943 stated he was
transferred to the Boston Armed Forces Induction Station, 1065
Commonwealth Ave., Boston Mass for duty pending discharge at 1730 hr
The National Archives indicates that he re-enlisted on
30 October 1945 at Ft Wadsworth, Rosebank, NY. There are no
further details available on his service thereafter.
He
and his wife lie in Plot: Block AA Row 1 Lot 9 Grave C, in the Woodlawn
Cemetery, Ferndale (Whatcom), WA. |
