George enlisted in the Army at Ft Jackson, Columbia, SC on
3 July 1942 and became a member of the Hq Hq Company, 508trh PIR.
Pvt Raines was wounded in action in Normandy on 9 June
1944.
He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Service
Arrowhead device awarded for his participation in the Normandy assault.
