(courtesy of "Anonymous")

Mausoleum marker for Alvis L. Richmond in the Lakeview, Roses Mausoleum at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake (Chesapeake City), Virginia.

Alvis, a West Virginia native, enlisted in the Army at Richmond, VA on 4 March 1943.

Following basic and jump school, Alvis was shipped overseas to a replacement depot.  On 4 April 1944 he was transferred to Hq Hq, 508th in Nottingham, England.

Pvt Richmond made the jump into Normandy on d-Day and was seriously wounded two days later, 8 June 1944. He was evaluated to the 94th General Hospital, Bristol England.  He was probably transferred to still another hospital in northern England or in Scotland.

On 23 August 1944 he departed Prestwick, Scotland aboard an overnight TWA charter flight arriving the following day at Mitchel Field, NY.  He was #14 on the manifest.

Once back in the states he underwent further treatment and was not discharged until 13 July 1945.
