Robert registered for the draft in York, PA and was
inducted into the Army at Harrisburg, PA on 2 December 1942.
Pvt Richmond was transferred from Camp Toccoa, GA to
Hq 3rd, 508th PIR on 16 December 1942,
On 26 June 1944, Pvt Richmond was wounded in action
and sent to a field hospital where he was treated for facial wounds
caused by artillery shell fragments. He returned to duty on 22 August
1944,
.Pvt Richmond was promoted directly to Corporal on 1
October 1944.He was wounded a seconded time on 21 September19 44
in Holland
Like so many servicemen, Robert curtailed his high
school studies after 2 years due to being drafted. On 22 May 1946
he was he presented a high school diploma based on his military servicer
experience.
He married Elizabeth Schoenbaechler in Summit County,
OH on 1 March 1947.
Robert submitted this application for the Pennsylvania
WWII Veterans Bonus on 26 January 1950. He was credited with 13
months of domestic duty and 22 months of foreign service which entitled
him top a $460 bonus award. |
