Curtis Wayne Richter Curt Richter, retired Denver police officer and U.S. Army Veteran was found in his home on May 31, 2020. in Florissant, Colorado within days of turning 58.
   Curt was born on May 19, 1962 at 7:08 am on a Saturday to Mary Regina and Charles H. “Bud” Richter. His brother, Michael Richter, who lives in Tennessee, survives him.
   He lived most of his life in Colorado. He graduated from Cheyenne Mountain High School, Colorado Springs in 1980 and studied at Pikes Peak and Fayetteville Community Colleges.
   He started his service in the U.S. Army in 1980 where he was stationed at Fort Bragg. He was a Squad Leader and Sniper at 82nd Airborne Division B Co., 1/508 Infantry. He was a combat Veteran having served in Grenada. One of his Airborne brothers described him as tough but fair, an NCO who lead by example and one who gained respect by actions not words.

   From 1987-1999, he was a Patrol Sergeant at Woodland Park Police Department before he served 18 years with the Denver Police Department. During his time with Denver Police, he was a tenacious detective and excellent street cop.
   Following his retirement from the Denver Police Department, he worked for Teller County Sheriff’s Office as a reserve deputy and Cripple Creek Police as a reserve officer.
   He was a gifted photographer and historian. He studied Aikido, Aikido, and Jiujutsu.
   Curt was well liked and kept close friendships in many places. He will be deeply missed by his military and law enforcement brothers and sisters, acquaintances, and anyone who knew him. Those who did know him knew that he had a soft spot for one furry and very large cat, named Grizz. Though he enjoyed the company of Grizz, his time with friends was always special with lots of laughs and many stories. As Curt would say, “watch your 6”. Until Valhalla…
   Burial with military honors will be held Monday, November 16, 2020 at 11:00 am, at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, Colorado Springs, CO.
