Clarence Bernard "Igge" Rohwedder, 79, of Floral City,
Fla., born Nov. 23, 1925, in East St. Louis, Ill., died Friday, Sept.
16, 2005, at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of Citrus
County.
Mr. Rohwedder came to Floral City, Fla., in 2003, from
Caseyville, Ill. He was a retired diesel mechanic. He was World War II
Army veteran, serving during the Battle of the Bulge and the 101st
Airborne Division and was the recipient of the purple heart and bronze
star. Mr. Rohwedder was of the Greek Orthodox faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and
Catherine, nee Smith, Rohwedder; and a brother, Donald Rohwedder.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia, nee Sullivan,
Rohwedder; seven daughters, Susan Mezo of Dupo, Ill., Linda (Paul)
Bogacki of Dekalb, Ill., Jill (Ron) Darin of Lenzberg, Ill., Evelyn
(Paul) Bilyeu of Fairview Heights, Ill., Sarah (John) Dobecki of St.
Louis, Mo., Linda (Terry) Konkel of Belleville, Ill., and Jodi (Steve)
Herbstraitt of Belleville, Ill.; a stepson, John Carroll of Trumann,
Ark.; two brothers, Walter Rohwedder of Fairview Heights, Ill., and
Henry (Donna) Rohwedder of Teutopolis, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; and
several great-grandchildren.

Grave
marker for Clarence B. Rohwedder in Section 1Z, Site 633, Jefferson
Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay (St. Louis county), Missouri.
Clarence was a member of Company D, 508th PIR and was
wounded in action on 22 February 1945.
His military decorations include the Purple Heart and Combat
Infantryman Badge which was awarded for the Central Europe campaign. |
