CHARLES F. ROLLINS

Charles F. Rollins, 84, of Eleanor died February 24, 2002, at home following a long illness.

He was born December 23, 1917, a son of the late George W. and Wilmina Rollins. He was also preceded in death by five sisters, three brother and an infant daughter, Brenda.

He was a member of Winfield Baptist Church and was retired from Union Carbide Institute plant. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Putnam Masonic Lodge 139 AF&AM. He also served proudly in the United States Army, 508 82nd Airborne Division during World War II. He participated in several combat jumps and spent over four years in Europe during the war, including the Battle of the Bulge.

Surviving: wife, Pauline Fisher Rollins; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Ed Dawson of Hurricane, Paulette and Daniel Short of Eleanor; daughters, Betty Stamper of Scott Depot; four grandchildren, John Dawson of Hurricane, Jamie Dawson of Charleston, Stephen Stamper and Amanda Stamper, both of Scott Depot; two great-grandchildren, Trey and Maddie Dawson; a host of other relatives and friends.

Service was held Wednesday, February 27, 2002, at Winfield Baptist Church with Pastor Doug McComas officiating. Burial with military rites was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064 or to Winfield Baptist Church, 3632 Winfield Road, Winfield WV 25213.
