Stanley Rompala, 69, of Auburn Center, RD 3. Meshoppen, died
unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 1. 1990, at home.
Born in Alden Station, be was the son of the late Lewis and Sophia
Wegrzyn Rompala. He was a retired IBM employee and a member of St.
Joachim's Roman Catholic Church, Meshoppen.
He was an Army veteran of World War and a member of the VFW Post of
Elk Lake.
He was preceded in death by sisters. Irene Rompala; Edna Haycenko;
brother, Frank.
He is survived by sisters, Ann Rompala, with whom he resided; Helen
Petroskl, Cape Canaveral, Fla.; Fran Slovak, Vestal. N.Y.; brothers.
Joseph. Meshoppen; Lewis. Wappingers Falls. N.Y.; Edward, Endwell. N.Y.;
several nieces and nephews.

Rompala will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home, 123 W. Tioga St.,
Tunkhannock, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St.
Joachim's Roman Catholic Church, Meshoppen. Interment will be in the
Parish Cemetery.

Stanley
registered for the draft ca. 1941 and entered service on 25 September
1942 at Wilkes Barre, PA. He was assigned to Hq Hq, 508th PIR.
Pvt Stanley F. Rompala, son of Mrs. Sophia Rompala,
Meshoppen, is in combat training at Camp Mackall, N.C. He joined
the Army in October, 1942, and won his wings as a United States
parachutist on February 5, 1943. Before entering the service, he worked

In England Pvt Stanley Rompala, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis
Rompala, Meshoppen, formerly of Alden, has arrived in England. He is a member of the Paratroopers. Pvt. Rompala is
a graduate of Newport Township High School and was employed by Sardoni
Construction Company. In a letter to local relatives, he told of meeting
a group of Polish soldiers who escaped from Poland when the Nazis
overran the country and the terrible deeds the Nazis committed against
the populace.

T/5 Rompala was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious
action under fire.
On 16 March 1945, T/5 Rompala was transferred to the 82nd
Airborne Division
He was discharged on 18 November 1945.
On January 24, 1950, Stanley submitted this application for
the Pennsylvania WWII Veterans bonus. He was credited with 15
months of domestic duty and 23 months of foreign service resulting in a
$495 bonus award. |
