ROPER-- Delbert R., 75, of Tulsa, passed away
Monday, October 20, 1997.
Retired as Manager of National Accounts for
Warren Petroleum Corp. U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. Member of Asbury
United Methodist Church, Petroleum Club and Elks Club.
He was preceded
in death by wife, Lou in 1983. Survived by: son and daughter-in-law,
Brad and Kathy Roper; daughter, Patty Kinney; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer
Kinney, Mark Roper and Phillip Roper, all of Tulsa; and several nieces
and nephews.
Memorial service 11 a.m., Friday, October 24, 1997 at
Asbury United Methodist Church.
Private entombment at Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Delbert enlisted in the
Army at Oklahoma City, OK on 5 November 1942 and was assigned to Company
E, 508th PIR.
Pvt Roper was appointed to
the grade of Corporal on 24 April 1943 and was later elevated to
sergeant.
Sgt Roper was discharged
on 26 August 1944 to accept a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant.
2nd Lt, Roper was
transferred to Company "I" on 31 Aug 1944 with the primary duty of
Assistant Platoon Leader and participated in the jump into Holland on 1
September 1944.
Lt Roper was seriously
wounded in action on 22 September 1944 and evacuated to a field
hospital. On 22 December 1944 he was listed as transferred to the
hospital detachment of patients and removed from active duty with the
508th. However, on
21 March 1945 Lt Roper was transferred to Co G, 508th PIR from the 11th
Reinforcement Depot.
Lt Roper was awarded
the Purple Heart for his wound in Holland and the Bronze Service Arrowhead for participation in Normandy assault/ |
