Edward Roughgarden
VERNON
Edward Roughgarden, 62, died Thursday at Wallkill Valley Hospital in
Sussex after a tong illness.
He was born in Paterson and lived in Vernon for 12 years.
Before his illness, Mr. Roughgarden was a rotogravure printer for
25 years.
He served as a paratrooper during World War II and was a member of Vernon
V.F.W Post No. 8441.
Surviving are his wife Beatrice; two sons, Edward at home and Ronald Saltus of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Karen Markwis of Milford, Pa.,
and Jayne Bernhardt of Clifton; and six grandchildren.
Arrangements were by the Ramsey Funeral Home, 1 Main St., Franklin.

Edward enlisted in the Army at Newark, NJ on 23
January 1943 and was inducted on 1 February.
Pvt Roughgarden was transferred from HQ, Parachute
School, Fort Benning, GA to Company I, 508th PIR on 9 August 1943.
On 2 September 1943, he was transferred to Replacement
Station 990 for re-assignment. |
