RICHARD B. SAFFLES


Richard Blake Saffles, 79, died March 4, 2001.

Born Jan. 30, 1922, in Lenoir City, Tenn., he lived most of his life in Akron. He served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division during World War II in France, Holland, Belgium, and Germany, and was on President Eisenhower's Honor Guard after the Conflict. When he returned, he signed up with the National Guard and served at several bases in the 83rd Division. He was employed for 10 years at Goodyear Aircraft then for 25 years at Ford Motor in Walton Hills, retiring in 1987.

Preceded in death by wife, Sarah Marie; dear friend, Nancy Ulichney; sister, Ima Jean; and brother, Oscar, he is survived by ex-wife, Wanda; son, Michael; granddaughter, Nicole; sister, Betty Wilson; brother, Gilbert; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
