SAIZ Antonio E (Tony) Sr., 69
- A lifelong resident of Santa Fe died at St Vincent’s Hospital on Monday evening following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Saiz was born into a family of 16 children in Santa Fe on February 27 1923 to Guadalupe and Luz Saiz He served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II He was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds he received in the Battle of the Bulge. He married Gerri Linson in 1948.
Mr. Saiz was preceded in death by a brother Willie V Saiz, brother-in-law Jose Martinez and numerous brothers and sisters.
Mr. Saiz owned and operated Saiz Plumbing and Heating since 1956, a company he took over from his father who established the business in 1917.
He was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. in the St John’s Cursillo, the Holy Name Society, St Vincent de Paul, the Cruzado, St John’s Soup Kitchen and also in Prison Ministries.
Mr. Saiz is survived by his wife Gerri M Saiz' children: Arthur J Saiz, Tony E Saiz Jr., James L Saiz and wife Kathy, Martha I Kossman and husband Alan, Ann Marie Padilla and husband Rick Philip.M Saiz and Vincent Paul Saiz. all of Santa Fe and Nancy J Saiz and Hollie Ann Saiz of Washington DC; sister Theresa Martinez of Santa Fe; aunt Andrea Moya; First cousins Larry Moya, Leo Moya and Helen Garcia of Santa Fe; grandchildren: James A Saiz, Robert Jacob Saiz, Stacey Nicole Saiz. Peggy Leah Kossman, Mac Alan Kossman, Carlos Padilla and Matthew Padilla; many friends. nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Visiting hours will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 pm today at Berardinelli Mortuary and at 6:30 pm at St John’s Church where a parish rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm by
Mr. Tony Rodriguez. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Thursday at St John’s. Internment will follow in the Santa Fe National Cemetery with full military honors at graveside.

Site 175, Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe (Santa Fe county),
New Mexico where he was interred on 7 January 1993..
Antonio, widely known as Tony,"
registered for the draft at Santa Fe, NM on 6 January 1941. He
stated his date of birth as 27 February 1922 which made him appear
to be 18. In fact, his year of birth was 1923 and he was only
17 when he was inducted into the Army on 6 January 1941.
In September 1942 he was admitted
to the 3rd Station Hospital, location unknown, where he
underwent a bone graft for a moderately severe but non-described
deformity, The condition pre-existed his entry into service.
He was released to duty in November 1942.
Pvt Saiz attended jump school in
England and was transferred from the 82nd Airborne Division Hq to
Service Company 508th PIR on 8 September 1944.
He was transferred to Company C on
8 December 1944.
Pvt Saiz was wounded in action on
3 January 1945.and evacuated to a field hospital. Still unable
to be retuned to duty, he was transferred to the hospital's
detachment of patients on 30 May 1945.
Antonio was discharged at Fort
Bliss, TX on 23 August 1945.and registered his discharge with the
draft board at Santa Fe, NM the following day. |
