ROBERT  I. SATTERLY

Homeward Bound
On 28 July 1955 Bob, his wife Florence and children: John, Dorothy, Michael and Timothy along with 22 pieces of luggage, arrived in New York, NY after an eight-day transit from Genoa, Italy.

Although his rank was not recorded, his ASN was registered with his name.  His wife and children traveled under a joint passport.

Note that his oldest child, John, was born in Germany.  In an interview Bob stated, "I had to leave 508 in Frankfurt as my wife was carrying our 1st son and could not travel home after just having gotten to Frankfurt from the states.

I didn't rejoin Airborne but went into Transportation where I stayed for the rest of my service and retired as a Major in 1963"

Major Robert I. Satterly
(Boonville Native/WWII Veteran)

   FLORIDA - Major Robert I. Satterly (Retired). 90 of Niceville, FL and Ocean Township, NJ, and native of Boonville, NY, passed away February 25, in Niceville. Florida.
   Affectionately known as Bob, he was born in Boonville on December 4, 1923, a son of Everett and Rhena Satterly, Sr.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduating from Boonville High School in 1942.   He served in Europe with the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division during the Battle of The Bulge, earning a Bronze Star.  After WWII he remained in the Army for 22 years, serving in West Germany, Austria and Korea.  After that conflict, in addition to several duty stations in the United States, including Pine Camp (Fort Drum) in NY.  After retiring from Fort Monmouth, NJ, in 1963, he lived and worked in New Jersey for the next 50 years, returning to Boonville many times for Satterly family reunions and graduation class reunions, and for hunting and fishing trips with his family.
   He is survived by sons Michael (Becky) Satterly of Kalispell, MT, and Timothy (Jane) Satterly of Longmont, CO; daughters Dorothy (Warren) Carretta, Ocean Township, NJ, Paula (Drew) Edell of Upper Montclair, NJ, and Lt Col Mary Hart, USAF of Niceville, FL.
   Also surviving are brothers, Glenn Satterly of Port Leyden and Dick (Joann) Satterly of Boonville; sisters, Jean Satterly Greco of New Hartford, NY, and Caryl Satterly Donnelly of Boca Raton, FL; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he dearly loved.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, a son John Robert Satterly, his wife of 67 years Mary Mazur Satterly, and brothers Donald A. Satterly and Everett f. Satterly, Jr. of Boonville and sisters Bertha Satterly and Linda (Jack) McPhilmy, of Boonville.
   His funeral mass was held March 4, 2014 at St. Anselm's Church in Wayside, NJ with entombment at Woodbine Cemetery and Mausoleum, Oceanport, NJ.
