George A. Schalasky, 81, of Oblong, died at 7:03 a.m.
Wednesday, July 31, 1996, at his residence.
Services
will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Valentine Catholic Church, with
Father Richard Weltin. Burial will be in the St. Valentine Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong.
Memorials can be
made to St. Valentine Cemetery Fund.
Schalasky was born Nov. 22, 1914, in Saline County, the son of Joseph and
Eva Schalasky. He married Margaret Ochs July 13, 1946.
He worked in the coal mines of
Illinois and Indiana and retired from Pawnee Mine #10 in 1977. He was a
World War II veteran of the Army and a member of St. Valentine and St. Mary
Assumption of Ste. Marie, a 50-year member of Saline Post #3479, Ste. Marie
American Legion Post #0932, a member of United Mine Workers of American,
Wabash Valley Association of the 82nd Airborne Division in Terre Haute,
Ind., and the 508th Paratroopers Association.
He is survived by his wife, of Oblong; six sons, Francis Schalasky and his
wife, Anne, of Oblong, Walter Schalasky, of Stoy, George Schalasky and his
wife, Karen, of Noble, Thomas Schalasky and his wife, Kimberly, of Mt.
Carmel, David Schalasky and his wife, Jean, of Hormston, Ore., Daniel
Schalasky and his wife, Darnell, of Flat Rock; four daughters, Eva Hahn and
her husband, Paul, of Olney, Mary Ann Davis and her husband, Jerry, of
Charleston, Rose Gangloff and her husband, Robert, of Oblong, and Ruth Ann
Costa and her husband, Louis, of Mt, Carmel; two brothers, Joseph Schalasky
and his wife, Lou Anna, of Evansville, Ind., and John Schalasky and his
wife, Mona, of Oakley; 35 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Margaret; three
sisters, Nellie Weips, Margaret Statulis and Anna Masse; three brothers,
Alex, Joseph and Walter Schalasky.
