JAMES M. SCHIEB

(courtesy of Michael DeLost)
Grave marker for James M. Schieb in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Glen Carbon (Madison county), Illinois.

James enlisted at Jefferson Barracks, MO; on January 29, 1943.  On December 8, 1943, he completed basic training and jump school and was transferred to the 508th PIR which was then at Camp Sissonne, France.  Ten days later the regiment boarded trucks to race to the front for the Battle of the Bulge.

Pvt Schieb was hospitalized a month later on January 27, 1945 for a non-combat related injury which probably means that he suffered frost bite in his feet.  He was not released until May 7, 1945, three days after VE day was announced.

Jams rejoined Company C and took part in the regiment's duty as General Eisenhower's Honor Guard at SHAEF Headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany.
