Schildmeyer Roberts
Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Roberts, of Lonaconing, have announced the marriage of their daughter, Miss Nettye Mildred Roberts, and Staff Sergeant Merle Howard Schildmeyer, son of Mrs. Charles Schildmeyer, of Portland, Ore. The wedding took place April 23 in Old St. Paul's Church, Baltimore, the Rev. Harry Lee Doll officiating. The bride is a graduate of the Sinai Hospital School of Nursing and is serving with the American Red Cross. Sergeant Schildmeyer is stationed at Camp Mackall, N. C.

Merle H. Schildmeyer
Gettysburg Merle H. Schildmeyer, 88, of 233 Ewell Ave., Gettysburg, died Saturday, May 12, 2000, at the Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village. He was (the husband of Mildred Roberts
Schildmeyer for 57 years.
Born Sept. 4, 1912, in Brownsville, Ore., he was the son of the late Carl and Jennie Hair Schildmeyer.
He was employed for 27 years at WCBM radio station in Baltimore. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as master sergeant of the Army 82nd Airborne Division, and was a (member of Albert J. Lentz Post 202 American Legion in Gettysburg, and the 82nd Airborne Association of Pennsylvania.
Surviving is sister, Eleanor Bachman of Vancouver, Wash.
The graveside service will be held at '2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Moscow, Md. The family will receive friends at Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m.

1 October 1940.
According to National Archive records Merle
was inducted into the Army at Portland, OR
on 4 April 1942.
Available 508th records do not reflect his arrival in the
regiment but on 29 July 1943
On 18 February 1943 5/5 Schildmeyer was attached to Hq Hq
Company by "VOCO* for rations and duty.
T/5 Schildmeyer was relieved from being merely
attached to he Company as he was given a permanent assignment to Company on
23 February 1943.
Despite his permanent status, T/5 Schildmeyer was transferred
to the 541st PIR at Ft Benning,, GA on 15 August 1943.
He was discharged on 6 February 1946.
