Grave marker for Roland H. Schmidt in Plot 2E, Grave 94, Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Spring Lake (Cumberland county), North Carolina.

Pfc Schmidt transferred from the 504tj PIR to Company D, 508th PIR on 3 October 1945.

On 10 November 1945, he re-enlisted in the Regular Army with a three year commitment for service with the 508th Parachute Infantry.

As a re-enlistment bonus, he was granted sixty days furlough and placed on TDY with the 6903rd Reinforcement  Battalion, Le Havre, France.  Once he reported there, he was placed on further TDY to Reception Station No. 16, Camp McCoy. Wisconsin, a locality ner his home in Young America, MN.
