Nena A. Schweikhard.in Plot 30A, Site 4, Riverside National Cemetery,
Riverside (Riverside county), California.
Fred and Nena were married on 20 May 1938 in
Council Bluffs, IA
Fred
was in the National Guard during the same period and was listed as a Sgt in this 1939-1940 edition
of the Biennial Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Nebraska.
Fred registered for the draft in North Plate,
NE on 16 October 1940 and was inducted into the Army at with ASN 20722098 at
North Platte, NE on 23 December 1940.
Sometime soon thereafter, he was commissioned
an officer. His arrival date in Company E, 508th PIR is unknown as no
Morning Reports are available for Co E in 1942. 1st Lt. Schweikhard is first seen in
March 1943 when he was sick in quarters for a day and later as he assumed
command of the company on 18 March 1943. He was relieved of command on
3 May 1943 and his name is not seen again on 508th records. He was,
however, present for the company montage photos which were taken during that
same general period.
On
18 Jun 1946, Captain Schweikhard arrived in New York, NY from Southampton,
England aboard the SS Queen Mary
Fred either took a break in service or was
affected by the RIF (Reduction In Force) as he enlisted in the National
Guard as a MSgt with the ASN 06556672 at Grand Isle Army Air Field, NE on 3
May 1946.
His
grade is not revealed in this record when he flew from Honolulu. HI aboard a
USAF Boeing C-97 Stratofreighter, Flight 204-19 to Fairfield, CA, then the
home of Fairfield-Suisun Air Force Base, which has since been renamed as
Travis AFB.
He later regained his commission and
retired as a Major with more than 20 years of service |
