CHARLES N. SCIANDRA

(courtesy of Gary Harrington)

Grave marker for Charles N. Sciandra  in the Whitehaven Cemetery, Grand Island (Erie county), New York.

Charles enlisted in the Army at Buffalo, NY on 17 September 1942 and became a member of Company A, 508th PIR.

Pvt Sciandra participated in the jump into Normandy on 6 June 1944.

It was not until 29 June 1944 that the Company A Morning Report listed Pvt Sciandra as MIA as of 8 June 1944.  The reason for the delay is undetermined.

As it turns out, he had been taken prisoner on D+2, 8 June, and may have been widely separated from his stick after landing in Normandy.

He was released from Stalag 4D on 5 June 1945.
