William Claude "Bill" Scoggin, 87, passed away Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at his home.
Graveside service: 10 a.m. Tuesday in Ash Creek Cemetery in Azle. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Biggers Funeral Home.
William was born July 23, 1920, in Parker County to Willie Dawson and Martha Ora Ritchey. He was the fifth of eight children, had lived in the Fort Worth area his entire life and attended Azle High School.
Bill joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in the 508th Airborne Infantry Division until an injury forced his separation.
He was a retired repairman for Southwestern Bell Telephone after 37 years of service, a former Lake Worth City councilman, served on the board of trustees for Lake Worth ISD, a former Lions Club Little League baseball coach and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
William was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herchell and Harry "Bo" Scoggin; sisters, Patricia Derby and Margie Niblett.
Survivors: Wife of 55 years, Phyllis; daughter, Barbara Keller of Lake Worth; sons, Soapy and Buck of Parker County and Phillip of Lake Worth; grandsons, Paul Keller and Jacob Scoggin.

William enlisted in the Army at Fort
Worth, TX on 13 October 1942.
On 2 November 1942, Pvt Scoggin was
transferred from Camp Wolters, TX to Company D, 508th PIR. He was
appointed to the grade of Pfc on 1 April 1943.
On 11 August 1943, Pfc Scoggin was
hospitalized for an unknown injury. He was transferred to a unit
designated as "M8B" on 30 August 1943 and did not return to the regiment.
