JOSEPH W. SCOTT

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph W. Scott on Sunday, June 20th, 2010. He died peacefully with his family at his side at Dartmouth medical center in Hanover, NH.
He was born on September 14th, 1930 in Bristol, Ct. to parents Hugh Scott and Mary Jane Power, one of 13 children. He married his high school sweetheart, Katherine “Kitty” Scott on July 5th, 1952 and moved with his young family to Randolph, Vt. in 1975.
Joe graduated from Bristol, CT High School and the University of Hartford.
He served as a Sgt. first class in the United States army with the 508th airborne combat team during the Korean war.
He is survived by his wife, Kitty, two sons, Sean and Brian, daughter-in–law Tracy Scott and grandson, Tyler. He is also survived by a brother, Michael Scott and sister Anna Bachman, as well as numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by brothers Jack, Patrick and Eugene and his sisters Doris, Rachel, Mary Pons, Ruth Palmisano, Margaret Spinelli, Norma Gagner and Marguerite Ritchie.

Joe will be remembered for his generous, childlike spirit, big smile and large hands, all of which he extended to anyone within range. He could bake, too, winning (with the assistance of his two sons) the Best Cake award at the Terryville, Ct, state fair in the 1970s.
Joe laughed and smiled a lot. He was fiercely loyal to his wife and sons and the friends of his two sons, often stepping in to provide guidance to advocate for them as they grew. He was a constant presence and source of encouragement and support in his two sons’ lives at little league games, piano recitals, even rock concerts, buying tickets for and accompanying them (with Kitty) to a particularly notorious rock concert by the band “Kiss” in the late 70’s. His children were never the same (in a good way, we think). He was very proud of his two sons in all they did, especially their involvement in the off- Broadway show Blue Man Group. Joe always was there, he always showed up for his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
