Grave markers for Curtis R. Sherrill in Longstraw Cemetery (Jackson Parish). Louisiana/

Curtis served in the 5087th ARCT in Korea.

Curtis Richard Sherrill “Papaw” went to be with his Lord Friday, March 20, 2015, in Ruston, LA after a brief illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Lincoln Parish and served his country proudly. Curt was born on March 5, 1931 in Mena, Arkansas.
After bravely serving as a paratrooper in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, he returned home to his wife of 61 years, Charlene Skipper Sherrill.
He was a carpenter by trade but is best known throughout the area as “the screen man” building window screens throughout Northern Louisiana. He went on to build a life and a family of 2 daughters, 4 sons, 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and countless friends and extended family. He dearly loved his God, his country, his family, and the outdoors especially fishing and farming.    You could usually find him on the farm unless the fish were biting and then at Gills Ferry on D’Arbonne Bayou although any good fishing spot would generally work.
Papaw was preceded in death by his parents, B.H. & Fannie Sherrill; brothers, Johnny Sherrill and Skeet Sherrill and sister, Nancy Moore.
He is survived by his wife Charlene; daughters: Terry Barnett (Sonny) and Charlene Jackson (Lynn); sons: Curtis Richard Sherrill II “Ricky”, Mickey “Mule” Sherrill (Deana), Charles Sherrill, and Johnny “Smack” Sherrill (Pam); grandchildren: Lisa Lowery (Terry), Curtis Richard Sherrill III “Richie” (Danielle), William Barnett (Crystal), Andy Sherrill (Sabrina), April Hartley (Marvin), Joey Sherrill, Mickey Howard Sherrill II “JR”, Shelby Lynn Jackson, Kingston Sherrill, Kenlyn Sherrill and 15 great grand-children.
The family would like to thank the staff of Northern LA Medical Center for the excellent care received during his hospital stay.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the veterans charity of their choice.
