Grave marker for John Hannah and Ruth (nee Gugger) Shipley in the Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill (*Delaware County), Pennsylvania

SHIPLEY (Listed on June 13, 2006)

John Hanna Shipley - After 81 years, the Lord called John home to eternity on June 10, 2006. He was born May 6, 1925 to Thomas and Elizabeth Shipley in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a loving husband to Ruth Shipley (nee Gugger) for 51 years until her death in 1998.

He is survived by daughters, Carolyn Shipley-Ashley and Ruth Marian Shipley, both of Van Etten, New York; and son, John Edward Shipley of Delaware County, Pennsylvania. "Pop-Pop" had three grandchildren, Rachel Alyssa Ashley and Aaron James Ashley of Van Etten, New York, and John Thomas Shipley of Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his only sister, Clair Borgard of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; along with seven nieces and nephews and 14 great-grandnephews and great-grandnieces.

John served his country in World War II as a paratrooper in the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions in Europe.

There will be a private viewing for the family followed by a service to celebrate John's life and resurrection on Tuesday, June 13th, at 7 p.m. at Faith Bible Chapel on 72 West Tioga St. in Spencer, New York, with Pastor, Clarence R. Windnagle officiating.

Graveside services and interment will be at Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, John's family requests that contributions be made to Southern Tier Hospice and Palliative Care in Corning, New York (607-962-3100), or the VA Medical Center in Bath, New York (877-845-3247).
