As a 2nd Lt in Company D, Sickler was awarded the
Silver
Star.. His other awards include two Purple Hearts for wounds
sustained in Normandy |
Robert submitted this application for the Pennsylvania
WWII Veterans Bonus. He was credited with 24 months of domestic duty and
25 months of foreign service netting him the full $500 bonus available.
Note that his initial service as an enlisted man is recorded both
by the inclusion of his ASN and that he entered servicer at the
courthouse in Philadelphia.
In fact, Robert was inducted into the Army as a Private on 2 February
1942. He was tapped for OCS and upon completion of the Officer
Candidate School, he was discharged to accept a commission on 12 April
1943 and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant the following day. |
