The National archives records indicate that George enlisted in the Army on 31 January 1942 but, as can be seen below, he was on duty much earlier.

Pvt Siegmann (line 47,  with ASN typo USAT Republic underway at sea, circa the 1930sof 06871518 rather than 06871618) was listed aboard the USAT Republic, as a member of Schofield sector, Company Three, when the ship departed from Fort McDowell on Angel Island in San Francisco Bay, CA.  It was bound for Fort Schafter, Hawaii.

After a one-year tUSAT St. Mihielour of duty, Pvt Siegmann (line 175 with correct ASN) was amongst the members of the  4th Company, 8th Field Artillery that boarded the USAT St Mihiel.  The ship departed the Schofield Sector and arrived at Fort McDowell on 24 November 1936.

According to the BIRLS (Beneficiary Identification and Records Locator Subsystem) records, George was released from duty on 16 June 1945.  He may have been recalled to duty for the Korean Conflict and then chose to remain the army.  He retired with the grade of First Sergeant.
