Lyman registered for the draft at the
Selective Service Local Board No. 11, on 16 October 1940.
He was one of a large group of men from
Aspinwall, PA called for examination by Draft Board 11 in Sharpsburg, PA on

10] He passed the exam and entered service on 27
April.
The date of arrival in Company F, 508th
PIR for SSgt Slater is unknown but he was included on a roster of enlisted men in the
company who were between the ages of 35 and 37, inclusive. No other
appearance has been seen in 508th records. He ws discharged from the
Army on 12 November 1945.
On
16 December 1949, Lyman married Lillian W Walker Zellers in Winchester,
Virginia. Both had been divorced from their first marriages.
On 25 February 1950, Lyman submitted this application for
the Pennsylvania WWII Veterans Bonus. He was credited with 20 months
domestic duty and 23 months of foreign service netting him the full $500
bonus available.
