JOSEPH T. SMIETANA

Draft record for Joseph T. Smietana who had been employed by the American Rolling Mills Company [later known as ARMCO]  at the time he registered for the draft.  The completion of his service obligation was noted with the stamped DISCHARGED entry at the top.

Joseph enlisted in the Army at New Cumberland, PA on 28 October 1941. The date of his arrival in the 508th is unknown as the Service Company Morning Reports for 1942 are unavailable.

He is first listed Service Co records as SSgt Smietana, going on furlough on 19 August 1943.

 

On 18 January 1959, Joseph submitted this application for the Pennsylvania WWII Veterans Bonus.

He was credited with 25 months of domestic service and 22 months of foreign duty and was awarded the $500 maximum bonus allowable.

At the time this document was completed Joseph, wife Rose and two children were living with his parents at 139 Butler Street, Lyndora, PA
