Grave marker for James J. Smith in
Section T, Site 8440 of the Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale
(Suffolk County), New York
James was a member of Company G and was
wounded in Holland. It is thought that the marker's reference to a
Bronze Star Medal is attributed to the fact that all WW-II veterans
holding the CIB were also made automatic recipients of the BSM as well.
No individual award orders are known to exist.
NOTE: All his service records read
as "James M. Smith" but his family requested that the initial on
the marker be changed to "J".
