PFC JAMES J. SMITH

(courtesy of 'Glenn')

Grave marker for James J. Smith in Section T, Site 8440 of the Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale (Suffolk County), New York

James was a member of Company G and was wounded in Holland.  It is thought that the marker's reference to a Bronze Star Medal is attributed to the fact that all WW-II veterans holding the CIB were also made automatic recipients of the BSM as well.  No individual award orders are known to exist.

NOTE:  All his service records read as "James M. Smith"  but his family requested that the initial on the marker be changed to "J".
