Grave marker for Raymond H. Smith in Mount Victory Church Cemetery, Toland (Cumberland county), Pennsylvania..

 

Raymond registered for the draft in New Oxford, PA on 16 October 1940.  He was inducted into the Army at New Cumberland, PA on 3 April 1944.  He was  transferred to the 508th PIR in early 1945 and was wounded in action.  He was evacuated and later discharged at discharged at Thomas M. England General Hospital, Atlantic City, NJ on 3 May 1945,

 

On 16 January 1950, Raymond submitted this application for the Pennsylvania WWII Veterans Bonus.  He was credited with 8 months of domestic duty and 5 months of foreign service which entitled him to a $155.00 bonus payment.
