STEVE W. SOKOLA

Grave marker application and resulting bronze marker for Steve (Stephen) W. Sokola in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Upper Tyrone (Fayette county), Pennsylvania.

Steve enlisted in the Army at Fort George G. Meade, MD on 27 June 1941.

While the regiment was in its early sages of basic training at Camp Blanding, FL, T/5 Sokola was transferred to Hq 3rd on 28 November 1943 from another unit also at Camp Blanding.

T/4 Sokola was wounded in action on 31 January 1945 but was able to rejoin the company on 1 April 1945.

SSgt Sokola was discharged on 9 October 1945.

[NOTE: Sokola's military records as well as other data sources consistently list his given name as 'Steve".  Why his grave marker shows it as "Stephen" is unknown."
