Grave marker for Alex T. Sonosky in the Centennial Cemetery,
Gilsum (Cheshire county), New Hampshire.
Alex enlisted in the Army at Shelbyville, IN circa 16
November 1942 and was assigned to Hq 3rd, 508 PIR.
Pfc Sonosky participated in the jump into Normandy in June
1944 and may have also jumped into Holland although his record is not clear
on that point. It is known, however, that he was injured in action in
Belgium on 31 January 1945. Cpl Sonosky's military decorations include the French Croix
de Guerre with Bronze Star "for exceptional wartime services during
operations in the Liberation of France" and the Bronze Service Arrowhead
device awarded for participation in the Normandy assault. |
