DAVID L. SPEED

Grave marker for David L. Speed in the Garden of Devotion 2, Greenlawn Memorial Park, Natchez (Adams county), Mississippi.

David enlisted in the Army at Shreveport, LA on 1 November 1942 and was assigned to Company E, 508th PIR.

.On 1 February 1944, Pfc Speed was appointed to the grade of T/4.

T/4 Speed jumped into Normandy ob D-Day and was slightly injured on 7 June 1944.

It is not known whether he participated in the Holland Campaign but he did go into combat during the Battle of The Bulge.  On 16 March 1945 he was listed as being hospitalized as a non-battle casualty, perhaps due to frostbite.  He did not return to the regiment.

His military decorations include the Purple Heart and the Bonze Service Arrowhead device awarded for participation in the Normandy assault.

T/4 Speed was discharged on 9 November 1945.
