Grave marker for Albert J. Spernak in the
Angelus Memorial Park, Anchorage (Anchorage), Alaska.
Albert enlisted at Pittsburgh, PA on 27
March 1942 and was assigned to Hq 2nd on 20 Feb 1943 while the regiment was
at Ft. Benning, GA. He was taken
prisoner on D-Day in France and was liberated from Stalag 3C Alt Drewitz
Brandenburg, Prussia 52-14 approximately a year later. He was
discharged from the army on 20 October 1945.
Albert was not interred until more than three months
following his death, presumably due to having to wait for the ground to
thaw. |
