George Joseph Spero
Retired highway foreman
WINNEMUCCA --- George Joseph Spero, 67, died Jan. 13, 1993. at Humboldt General Hospital, following a sudden illness.
A native of Miles City. Mont., he was born Feb. 24, 1925, and had been a resident of Winnemucca since 1960, coming from Miles City.
Spero was a foreman for the Nevada Department of Transportation, retiring in 1985. He served in the Army and was in the 82nd Airborne, 508th Parachute Infantry.
He began mining in 1950 at Tunston Mine for seven years, Edgemont Mine for one year, and Kayhill Mine for one year.
Surviving are his widow. Marge, son Terry, daughter Tami Spero and sister Agnes White, all of Winnemucca; brothers Frank of Klamath Falls. Ore., and Ted of California; sisters Martha Benti of Elko and Catherine MacLeod and Mary Benti. both of Forsyth. Mont.; three grandchildren: and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Albertson Funeral Home, with burial at the Winnemucca Cemetery.
A memorial is being established with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, c/o Bank of America. 1005 West Fourth, Winnemucca 89445.

George registered for the draft in Miles City, MT on 4
March 1943 and was induced in the Army at Camden, NJ on 21
November 1942.
On 8 December 1944, Pfc Sacharoff was sent on Detached
Service with the 9th Troop Carrier command, Pathfinder School. He
returned to the company on 14 January 1945.
His military decorations include the Bronze Service
Arrowhead awarded for participation in the Normandy assault.
Leonard passed away on
Apr 25, 2020 in Renton, WA. No other
details are yet available.
