Jack enlisted in the Army at Ft Jackson, Columbia, SC.  Pvt Stalnaker was transferred from the Field Force Replacement Depot No. 8 to Company I, 508th PIR on 5 April 1944.

His military decorations include the Combat Infantryman Badge awarded for action during the Normandy, France Campaign, 6 June 1944 to 9 July 1944.
