Judge Richard M. "Dick" Stanley, 76, of Naples, passed
away November 22, 2000 at his residence. He was a native of Statesville,
N.C. and moved to Collier County in 1950.
He was a veteran of WWII and parachuted into France
with the 82nd Airborne Division on D-Day, 1944.
He was a graduate of the University of Florida where
he was a member of Florida Blue Key Honorary Fraternity. During his law
career he served as Collier County Prosecutor, County Judge and Circuit
Court Judge. He was founder of Youth Haven, charter member of Collier
County Library Board, member of Masonic Lodge Everglades Chapter, a
member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, a life-member of NRA and a
member of National Ex-Prisoners of War. He was also an avid hunter and
fisherman.
In addition to his wife, Winnie Stanley; he is
survived by three sons, Ron Stanley (Ginny) of Daytona Beach, Joey
Gratton (Priscilla) of Sarasota, and Robert Stanley; two daughters, Kim
Gratton of Naples, and Robbin Godwin; three grandsons, Richie Stanley,
Brock and Blake Gratton; three granddaughters, Holly (John) Walker and
Shaunna and Courtney Krehling; three greatgrandchildren, Payton, Randi
and Logan Walker; brother, Frank (Barbara) Stanley of Winter Haven;
sisters-in-law, Dot McLenon and Ernestine Reimer; brother-in-law,
Wendell McGill; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and
great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard "Mac"
Stanley; great-granddaughter, RylieWalker; and sister, Nancy Pace.
Visitation for family and friends will take place at
Hodges Funeral Chapel, 3520 Tamiami Trail North, Naples on Saturday,
November 25, 2000 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service
following at 1:00 p.m. Interment at Naples Memorial Gardens. In lieu of
flowers, contributions may be made to Youth Haven in Judge Stanley's
memory.

Grave marker for Richard M. Stanley in the
Veterans Field of Honor, Naples Memorial Gardens Cemetery, North Naples
(Collier county), Florida.Richard enlisted
in the Army at Camp Blanding, FL on 1 Jan 1943 and was assigned to
Company E.
Pfc Stanley made the jump into Normandy on
D-Day, 6 June 1943 and was taken captive the following day. Richard was
held prisoner until 18 May 1945 when he was liberated from Stalag 4D in
Prussia.
His military awards include the Combat Infantryman
Badge and the Bronze Service Arrowhead device for his participation in
the Normandy assault |
